The perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This book was my first novel in English, and this is by far one of my all time favourites. I relate a lot with the main character and some of the lines of this book are still fresh in my head. Very simple yet very interesting read for anyone who likes stories. I would also recommend the movie, which interestingly is also very good, according to me.

Here are all the highlights from the book which I found interesting:

  • I am both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be.

  • Maybe it’s sad that these are now memories. And maybe it’s not.

  • And I wonder if anyone is really happy. I hope they are. I really hope they are.

Charlie, we accept the love we think we deserve.
  • Not everyone has a sob story, Charlie, and even if they do, it’s no excuse.

  • But my dad said I did the right thing. I hope that I did, but it’s hard to tell sometimes.

  • And I was glad that everyone seemed as happy as they seemed.

  • He’s a wallflower. You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand.

  • And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

  • I just think it’s bad when a boy looks at a girl and thinks that the way he sees the girl is better than the girl actually is.

  • This one time when it’s peaceful outside, and you’re seeing things move, and you don’t want to, and everyone is asleep. And all the books you’ve read have been read by other people. And all the songs you’ve loved have been heard by other people. And that girl that’s pretty to you is pretty to other people. And you know that if you looked at these facts when you were happy, you would feel great because you are describing “unity”. It’s like when you are excited about a girl and you see a couple holding hands, and you feel so happy for them. And other times you see the same couple, and they make you so mad. And all you want is to always feel happy for them because you know that if you do, then it means that you’re happy, too.

  • It’s a great book. But try to be a filter, not a sponge.

All the credits go to the writer and the book.
